Garamycin Eye Drops
Garamycin is a broad spectrum aminoglycoside eye drops antibiotic. Garamycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, but may cause ear and kidney damage.
Garamycin Indications
Garamycin is indicated to the eye for treatment of infections such as conjunctivitis and serious infections caused by susceptible strains of the following microorganisms:
- Staphylococcus species (coagulase-positive and coagulase-negative);
- Proteus species (indole-positive and indole-negative);
- P.aeruginosa;
- Klebsiella-Enterobactor-Serratia species;
- E.coli;
- Citrobacter species;
Garamycin is useful primarily in infections involving aerobic, Gram-negative bacteria, such as
- Acinetobacter;
- Enterobacter;
- Pseudomonas;
Garamycin is mostly ineffective against anaerobic bacteria, fungi and viruses.
Garamycin Dosage
Garamycin Ophthalmic Ointment
Apply a thin strip--about one-third inch--of ointment to the affected eye 2 - 3 times a day.
Garamycin Ophthalmic Solution
Put 1 or 2 drops into the affected eye every 4 hours.
Garamycin Side Effects
Serious side effects are:
Occasional burning or stinging in the eye may occur with use of the ointment.
Occasional eye irritation--with itching, redness and swelling.
