Betagan Structure

Betagan Indications
Betagan eye drops are indicated for the control of intraocular pressure in ocular hypertension and
chronic open angle glaucoma.
Betagan Contraindications
Betagan eye drops are contraindicated in patients with:
- uncontrolled congestive heart failure,
- bronchospasm, including bronchial asthma,
- severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Betagan eye drops are contraindicated in those individuals who are hypersensitive to this medicine.
Betagan Warnings
As with other topically applied ophthalmic drugs, Betagan eye drops may be absorbed systemically.
Use Betagan within 1 month after opening the container.
Betagan Drug Interactions
Betagan eye drops may have additive effects in patients taking systemic anti-hypertensive medicines.
These possible additive efftcts may include hypotension, including:
- Bradycardia;
- Dizziness and/or syncope;
- Orthostatic hypotension;
May potentiate the ocular hypotensive effect of these drops:
- systemic beta-adrenoceptor blocking agents,
- conversely.
Betagan and Pregnancy
There are no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women.
Betagan and Nursing Mothers
Betagan eye drops are not known whether this drop is excreted in human milk.
Because similar drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when these eye drops are administered to a
nursing women.
Betagan Side Effects
Possible side effects of Betagan include:
- Transient ocular burning;
- Stinging;
- Decrease in heart rate;
- Blood pressure;
- Blepharoconjuncrivitis.
Other possible side effects of Betagan include:
- Transient ataxia;
- Kethargy;
- Itching;
- Iridocyclitis;
- Headache;
- Eructation;
- Elevated liver enzymes;
- Dizziness;
- Change in heart rhythm;
- Browache.
Betagan Dosage
Betagan eye drops dose is 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 1 or 2 time per day.
